Welcome
Hello. So some update…Well as you can see we have a new addition to our family. Miss Thea-Ann Marie has finally arrived, and not with out excitement. She definately has made a mark on our hearts. We loved her before we met her
and now, if possible, we love her even more.
She came early at 36 weeks after being induced then a C-section. The dr. told us they felt she had Down’s Syndrome. Which we are COMPLETELY fine with. We didn’t have the pre-natal tests done because it wasn’t going to make a difference one way or the other. Whatever GOD gave us we were fine with. We had waited 12 years for her and( she and Gaby are our MIRACLES) had two losses, so we weren’t going to be disappointed at all.
After they did an echocardiogram, which is standard for Downs babies, they found a Coarctation of the Aorta. If surgery was not performed soon it would be “disasterous” is what the dr. told us. Once she was life flighted to OHSU in Portland and we drove 5 1/2 hours, they told us that they repeated the test and found Thea-Ann did not have the coarc. We just looked at each other and praised God for the miracle. They have since told us that it must have been the angle or a shadow on the first echocardiogram, but we are believing that God performed a miracle and that He has a plan for Thea-Ann. Once we settled down from that we learned that Thea’s temperature had dropped too low and her billirubin was up. We were told OHSU was keeping her to resolve these issues. Though we were exstatic that she didn’t have a heart defect, we were not sure why OHSU needed to monitor the billirubin and temp. when our hospital could do that and we could be home or at least closer to home. After learning that my heart medicine was creating the hypothermia through the breast milk I stopped pumping and with in two feeding of only formula her temp. had begun to stabilize. They also said she had lost too much weight. Because she was a premie and was using up too many calories and energy when she was eating they felt she needed to have a nasogastric tube(feeding tube). With the tube we would be sure she would be getting the calories she needed to keep weight on. We were allowed to leave June 23 to finally take our baby home. So now with lots of guidance from GOD and our family and friends we will begin our journey.

Hello, I’m a mother in Costa Rica tuning in to your blog. It’s a courageous story and I’ll be back. My son two year old has T21. It’s a ride, but what parenting isn’t? Good luck. I’ll be back. Beautiful to read.
Still thinking of you.
